Hancock’s President’s Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey

Well, the Whiskey Bible gives this whisky an 83 out of 100. The same as Evan Williams, and I am going to have to strongly disagree. Now certainly this could be a bad barrel. While it is otherwise a very smooth shiskey i get a flavor of, well i guess its rye but it almost seem slike its fermented or moldy rye at best. I thought, at first, that it was like tasting what an old barn board smells like, if you get my drift. Overall what hits your palette is great, its the faint and if neat very bold, old taste. I find it hard to put my finger on exactly. Yea its the flavort aht comes up through my nose and nasal passageway that kinda turns me off. It is not that I wont drink it, because I will, it just has a flavor that I find hard to appeciate. Wine Enthusiast gives it an 88, again i call crap on that. I quote “This Single Barrel Bourbon is deep amber in color, the nose is light and sweet, with traces of mango and papaya.” There is no way someone tastes mango in this. I just cannot see it at all. It is 89 proof though, that makes up for a lot.
